Charities

Threads for Thought has chosen to partner with two leading charities that are at the forefront of addressing two of the world’s most confounding issues: The Environment and Refugees and the displaced citizens of the world.

The International Rescue Committee

The International Rescue Committee (the IRC), founded in 1933, is a global leader in emergency relief, rehabilitation, protection of human rights, post-conflict development, resettlement services and advocacy for those uprooted or affected by violent conflict and oppression.

The IRC is on the ground in 42 countries, providing emergency relief, relocating refugees, and rebuilding lives in the wake of disaster. Through 24 regional offices in cities across the United States, we help refugees resettle in the U.S. and become self-sufficient.

The IRC is consistently awarded high marks by charity watchdog groups and respected publications for the efficient use of its financial support and the effectiveness of its work. Of every $1 the IRC spends, 90¢ goes to programs and services that directly benefit refugees and war-affected populations.

The Natural Resources Defense Council

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation's most effective environmental action group, combining the grassroots power of 1.2 million members and online activists with the courtroom clout and expertise of more than 350 lawyers, scientists and other professionals.

Founded in 1970, the NRDC’s mission is to safeguard the Earth: its people, its plants and animals and the natural systems on which all life depends.
